How to convert VTT to TXT
- Paste your WebVTT captions into the VTT source box, or choose a .vtt file (UTF-8, up to 5 MiB) — conversion runs automatically.
- Edit the source any time to re-convert, or press Convert to retry on demand.
- Review the TXT result — one cue of caption text per paragraph, in the original order.
- Download the .txt file, or copy the text into your document.
What changes between WebVTT and plain text
A WebVTT (.vtt) file carries a WEBVTT header, timestamps, cue settings, and optionally NOTE comments, STYLE/REGION blocks, and inline tags. The TXT export strips all of that and keeps only the caption text, one cue per paragraph, in file order.
Note: This converter exports plain caption text: the WEBVTT header, timestamps, cue settings, comments and style markup are all removed. Only the caption text is kept, one cue per paragraph.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is removed?
The WEBVTT header, timestamps and cue settings, NOTE comments, STYLE and REGION blocks, and inline voice/class tags. Only the caption text lines remain.
How are overlapping or repeated cues handled?
Each cue's caption text appears once, in file order. Overlapping cues are not merged or deduplicated, so the transcript repeats lines that repeat in the captions.
Are my subtitles uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged.
What files can I load?
A UTF-8 text file up to 5 MiB. You can also paste subtitle text directly into the source box instead of choosing a file.
